BREAKING HIERARCHIES WITH AND ENDLESS DESK
The international chain B&B Hotels sought to create a new corporate headquarters in Madrid reflecting their values and liquid culture while offering a more flexible and agile workplace for its team. We designed a human-centric workspace connecting the team through a large central desk eliminating hierarchies and introducing a more humane approach to work dynamics.
➀ A DESK AND NOTHING ELSE
Following the team´s need for a democratic office without hierarchies, we designed a central void to be occupied by a single desk not seen as a piece of furniture but a place connecting people, ways of working and even departments.
➁ ENHANCING COLLECTIVE WORK
The axis of the project was the design of a void. A central space with natural light to be occupied by a large desk without fixed positions, hierarchies or departments. A table designed to encourage teamwork and creativity. From group meetings to individual work, the desk detaches itself from the perimeter, occupying the central axis of the space and offering a place of permanent connection.
Above the table, a ceiling offers protection, shelter and privacy within an open space while the curves hide rooms for those workers in need of privacy and silence.
➂ THE SPATIAL EXPERIENCE
Its multifunctional organic shape folds in some of its parts through curves that gradually fill and inhabit the void with blackboards and meeting points to discuss projects.
The configuration also promotes the diversity of uses through a “hot desk” system with flexible sites and computers, 6 booths for individual calls, 1 quiet room, 4 meeting rooms and a service area.
